Heinz G. Veigel, 77, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity, Rock Island.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 10th, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Private inurnment, with military honors, will be Tuesday at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.
Heinz was born June 28, 1939 in Besigheim, Germany, a son of Emil and Martha (Wagnel) Veigel. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 then shortly enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran after 4 years of service.
After serving the U.S. Army, Heinz began his life-long employment at John Deere Harvester Works for 34 years until his retirement. He was a Mason of 47 years at the Doric Lodge-AFAM, Moline. He enjoyed time spent with friends and family, especially during his trips to Germany. He also enjoyed reading, fishing, and caring for his dog "Lucky".
Surviving are his son Erich Veigel and his wife Courtney of Fishers, IN; daughter Heidi Veigel-Fetterer and her husband Rick of Milan; grandchildren Emily, Ethan, and E.J. Veigel and Alec, Jacob, Riley, and Reece Fetterer; great granddaughter Stella Fetterer; sister and brother-in-law Elsbeth and Günder Gerlach of Altenstadt, Germany; and his nephew and niece Ralph and Bettina Gerlach, both of Germany.
Heinz was preceded in death by his mother and father.
