Helen Josephine Franck, 90, residing in South Bend, IN, formerly of Rock Island, and Moline, passed away early Friday, November 28, 2014 in South Bend.
She was born February 29, 1924 in Grand Mound, IA, a daughter of Michael & Margaret Nugent. On July 12, 1948 in Arkansas, as Helen J. Nugent, she was united in marriage to Carsten H. Franck. They enjoyed 41 years of marriage until his passing. She was also preceded by a son Mark J. Franck, two sons-in-law, Bill Slayton, and John Bachnak, and seven siblings.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Gail Franck of Sarasota, FL and Lisa Slayton of Lakeville, IN; a son, Carsten H. (Dori) Franck of Arlington Heights, IL and daughter-in-law, Toni Franck. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Carsten H. (Anna) Franck III, John M. (Nandini) Franck, Dean C. Franck, Nicole Franck, Madi Franck, Bill Slayton II, Eleni Franck, Megan Franck, and Katherine Slayton, as well as two great-grandchildren, Trace Slayton, and Carsten Franck IV, and her sister, Jeanne Robiadek of Oregon, WI.
Mrs. Franck was a member of the Moline Turners, and the Ladies of the Elks in Moline, Pinnacle Golf Club, and the Y-Wives. She was a graduate of the Beauty College in Davenport, Iowa. She was an avid game player, always playing games with the grandchildren. She especially liked to play Rummikub. She was an amazing seamstress, enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading, working word puzzles, and enjoyed playing Bridge and Euchre with her many friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Rock Island Arsenal Cemetery, Rock Island. Those wishing to attend should meet at the funeral home by 9:30 a.m.
