Obituary

Helen Radmacher Laity passed away in her sleep at Avonlea Cottages in Milan on April 10, 2014, at the age of 100.

Mrs. Laity was born to Barbara and William Radmacher at her grandparents' home next to Jack's Mill in Oquawka, Illinois, on April 6, 1914. As a child she enjoyed riding with her grandfather in his horse and buggy and watching him operate the mill next to the old covered bridge. Before her marriage she was employed as a court reporter for a local attorney in Oquawka, and with the Home Owners' Loan Corporation in Moline.

She married Max Hobart Laity of Silvis in 1939. For several years she worked with Max at the company he founded - Tri City Radio Supply in Rock Island. During the summers Helen and Max enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River on their Chris Craft cabin cruiser with family and friends, and having many impromptu gatherings and pot lucks with their neighbors. After Max retired from his business, they spent their winter in Sun City, Arizona. Helen and Max were happily married for 50 years until Max died in 1989. Helen continued to live in the family home in Rock Island until 2013, when she moved to Avonlea Cottages.

Mrs. Laity was preceded in death by her husband Max, her brother Leonard Radmacher and her daughter-in-law Sharon Laity. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Thomas Laity, Elaine Laity, Jean and George Carey, Paul Laity, and Jan and Neil Rasmussen, as well as ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, on Monday, April 14th from 11:00 a.m. until noon, and a grave side service will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island on April 14th at 1:00 p. m. Family and friends are invited to attend.
