IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Henry "Joe"
W. Vandewoestyne
July 14, 1940 – February 19, 2018
Henry "Joe" V. VanDeWoestyne, 77, of Milan, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018 at his residence.
Private services to be held.
Joe was born on July 14, 1940 in Moline, the son of Henry and Helen (Anderson) VanDeWoestyne. He married Sandra Lovelace on September 10, 1966 in Milan, she preceded him in death on December 8, 2003. Joe worked as part owner at Ace Auto Shop before retirement. Joe was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Germany from 1958-1964 and operated helicopters. While he was serving, his uncle gave him the nickname "GI Joe".
Joe loved bargain shopping at yard sales. He was a deal maker and if he could get anything at a good price he'd purchase it no matter if he already had two of the item or not. Some of these items that he had multiples of, Joe would donate to other Veterans, single mothers, or friends. Joe was a giving person, not only on items but money to multiple organizations. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter and was her biggest supporter. Joe especially loved attending her dance activities during her high school and college years. One of Joe's passions was cars. He enjoyed them anywhere from working on them, watching NASCAR races, and collecting model cars.
Joe is survived by his granddaughter and husband, Amanda (Brandon) Laffoon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra and daughter, Stefanie VanDeWoestyne-Ruark.
