Homer "Ray" Carpenter, 71, of Moline, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport. A time for visitation and fellowship will be held 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave. Milan, IL 61264. Memorials may be made to the family.
Homer was born on February 26, 1943 in Pagosa Springs, Colo., a son of Homer R., Sr. and Edith E. Inman Carpenter. With the passing of his father when Ray was young boy, he moved to Illinois where he was raised in the care of his aunt, Frances "Bonnie" Maltsburger. He married Shirley Ann Defreitas on July 27, 1968 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on July 21, 2014.
Ray owned and operated Comfort Control Htg/AC for 31 years in Milan. In earlier years he served in the U.S. Navy.
He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, and spending time with friends and family, especially with his two granddaughters.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Diana K. Proksch, Viola; son, Donald R. Carpenter, Milan; granddaughters, Lindsey and Alyssa Proksch; his stepbrother, Jerry Persefield; many nieces and nephews; and aunt, Sylvia Burke.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters, Peggy Hodgerson and Juanita Bunch; brother, Donald Carpenter, and stepbrother, Jimmy Persefield.
