Hope E. Gillette, 95, of Milan, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at her home. Services for Mrs. Gillette will be 1pm, Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Milan. Visitation will be today from 5 to 7pm, at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Burial will be in the Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Milan.
Hope was born on February 2, 1920 in Milan, the daughter of Harry and Caroline Churchill Pilcher. She married Donald E. Gillette on June 22, 1940 in Tipton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2002. Hope was a homemaker. Hope was a life-long resident of Milan, Il, residing at the same address for 92 years. She loved tending to her flowers and crocheting afghans for her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her grandchildren, always ensuring there were plenty of cookies and pies on hand. During the holidays she would be busy creating seasonal arts and crafts; or taking summer trips to Wisconsin. Hope was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved her family and was a dedicated wife, mother, sister and grandmother.
Survivors include her sons, Dan (Deb) Gillette, Coal Valley, and Ed (Judy) Gillette, Rock Island; grandchildren, Susan (Tim) Robinson , Don Gillette , Tim (Angie) Gillette , Michelle (Jim) Harker; great grandchildren, Shawn (Linsay) Minard , Ellen Harker , Vanessa Robinson, Tavien Gillette , Tylen Gillette , Andrew Harker , Logan Harker and London Gillette; great-great grandchildren, Josh Minard and Lily Minard.
Hope was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; a granddaughter, Angela Gillette; and six siblings. Online condolences may be left for the family at wheelanpressly.com
