IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Iona M
Martin
January 19, 1954 – May 9, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Iona M Martin. She passed away unexpectedly on May 9th, 2025, in Silvis, Il after a tough battle with cancer.
Iona was born on January 19, 1954, to Freemont & Helen Herring in Moline, Il. She was the youngest of 3 children. Her childhood stories to her children consisted of fond memories of her grandmother and baking, which she passed on to her grandchildren. Iona grew up in the Quad Cities, she married John Martin in 1971. After Johns passing in 1984, she went on to marry Shane Maston in 2004. Iona was a devoted mother and grandmother; she always made time for her family. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events, watching dance competitions or baking cookies and having sleepovers on the weekend. You could also find her at the racetrack watching her son race, she loved seeing her children do what they loved.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Albert (Danielle) Martin, Tammy Olivarez, Amber Martin and Gary Schlieper; Grandchildren, Joseph(Taylor), John (Ericka), Tanner (Siera), Colin (Fred), Alexis, Giovanni, Emily, Madeline, Makenzie, Blake, Jordan, Christian, Addy, Hope and Alena (who she had a very special relationship with); her great- grandchildren, Ellie, Alex, Sophie, Mollie, Isabelle, Javier, and Warren; and siblings, Linda Regan and George (Rita) Herring. She is preceded in death by her parents, Freemont and Helen (Carlson)Herring, nephew, Mark Regan, husbands John Martin & Shane Maston and her beloved dog, Toby.
As we gather to honor Iona's life, let us remember her as a courageous, resilient, opinionated, blunt and absolutely loving woman whose legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial visitation will be held at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home in Rock Island from 5-7pm on Thursday, June 26th, 2025, providing an opportunity for family and friends to celebrate Iona's life and the cherished memories they shared. The family would also like to invite everyone to a Celebration of life at Sunset Park on Friday, June 27th, 2025, beginning at 3pm to dusk.
