Irene Louise Bergfeld, 95, of Rock Island, died Friday, October 3, 2014 at her home. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 - 1 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made in care of Beacon of Hope Hospice, Davenport.

Irene Peterson was born on July 19, 1919 in Mercer County, Ill., a daughter of Archie and Frances Peterson. She married Harry A. Bergfeld on June 22, 1940 in Aledo. He preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1996.

Irene graduated from Aledo High School in 1937. She later attended the former Brown's Business College in Rock Island.

Irene worked at the AAA office in Aledo, the former Peterson's Nursery and Barnett's in Moline.

She loved bowling and became a member of WIBC starting in 1959. She served over 30 years as secretary and treasurer of various leagues. Irene played piano for her own enjoyment. She also loved music, dancing, sewing, reading and crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include her daughters, Vicky Bergfeld, Florissant, Mo. and Jane (James) Ruebman, Lancaster, Pa.; granddaughter, Michelle (Craig) Kyle, Columbus, Ohio; great-grandson, Austin Kyle, Columbus, Ohio; sister, Margie Carlson, Sherrard, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Wendall Peterson and sisters, Phyllis Brown and Joyce Fionda.
