Irene J. Romeo, 75, of Moline, formerly of Rock Island, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island.
A memorial mass will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Jordan Catholic School or to a favorite charity.
Irene DeFayette was born Aug. 30, 1939 in Massena, NY, a daughter of Fred and Mary Gabor DeFayette. She married Victor C. Romeo on June 13, 1959 in Bettendorf. He died Oct. 14, 2010.
Irene graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy, Davenport. In early years, she worked for the Bob Slavens Co., Davenport. She later became a licensed realtor and worked for and managed several real estate firms in the Quad Cities for over 35 years. Irene was a past president and member of the Quad City Board of Realtors for over 35 years and served that organization in many capacities.
She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Irene enjoyed dancing and she and Vic could be found tearing up the floor at many local hotspots. She especially loved being with her family and friends.
Survivors include her sons, Tom (Pam) Romeo, Rock Island, Jay Romeo, Rock Island, and Chris Romeo, Davenport; grandchildren, Joshua, Ashley, Nicholas, Jenna, Samantha, Joseph, and Seth; great-grandchildren, Caden, Alyssa, Vinny, Noah and Averi; brothers, Robert (Helen) DeFayette, Gettysburg, Penn., and John (Iz) Gabor, Bettendorf; brother-in-law, John Ives, Covington, Ind.; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Madeline Ives.
