Obituary

Iris Ann Strickler, 66, of Milan, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014 at her home.

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Burial is at Chapel Grove Cemetery, Milan. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Iris Ann Eckhardt was born Nov. 6, 1948 in Monmouth, a daughter of Lee R. and Iris M. Hanley Eckhardt. She married Jerry Vance on Sept. 25, 1964 in Aledo. Iris later married Marty L. Strickler on April 14, 1979 in Hampton.

She attended Sawyer Business College, Davenport and Black Hawk College, Moline. Iris worked as a realtor, ran a nail shop, and also was an office manager at various businesses. Iris was mostly recently employed at Comfort Harbor Home in Milan as an assistant administrator. She loved all of the residents and thought of them as her own family. She was very close to all her employees and will be sorely missed.

Iris was a member of Victory Baptist Church, East Moline, and volunteered at the East Moline Christian School for several years. She loved country music (especially Conway Twitty, hence her dog Conway's name), anything computer related and could not pass a cemetery without stopping. She will always be remembered for the crazy annual trips she took Amanda and Tammy on. She had a great sense of humor and would try to see the good side in everything. Iris was a very loyal friend, and a great boss. But most of all, she would want to be remembered as an awesome loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Marty; daughter, Kandy (Butch) Overton; grandchildren, Amanda C. Overton, Gene Overton, and Jon (Amanda L.) Overton; great-grandchildren, Cody, Allison, Logan and Emmett Overton; sister, Melanie (Frank) Dilts; sister-in-law, Kathy Eckhardt; several nieces including, Tammy Eckhardt, who she included as a daughter; and her precious baby dog, Conway. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David; infant sister, Connie Rae; loving grandmother, Ruth Eckhardt; and aunt, Ann Myers.
