Isaac "Jay" Hurwitz, 85, of Highland Park, Ill., formerly of the Quad Cities,

died Monday, March 9, 2015. A graveside service will be at Noon Wednesday at Hebrew

Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made in care of Congregation

Beth Israel at the Tri-City Jewish Center, Rock Island, or to a charity

of your choice. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting

the family.

Jay was born in Des Moines, Iowa on May 4, 1929, a son of Benjamin and

Mary (Chapman) Hurwitz. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the

University of Iowa in 1951. Jay was a U.S. Army veteran.

Jay married Sandra Rice on May 19, 1957 in Des Moines, Iowa. She

preceded him in death on July 28, 1994.

Jay lived in the Quad Cities from 1957 - 2000. While living here, he

was a member of Congregation Beth Israel at the Tri-City Jewish Center,

Rock Island. He was a lifelong Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Bears, Cubs and

Bulls fan.

Survivors include his children, Ben (Michele Weber Hurwitz) Hurwitz, Buffalo Grove,

Ill., Larry Hurwitz, Avon, Conn. and Scott (Kelly Austin) Hurwitz, Evanston,

Ill.; grandchildren, Rachel, Sam, Cassie, Sadie and Leah Hurwitz;

brother, Lou and Marilyn Hurwitz, Des Moines, Iowa; and special friend,

Roberta "Bobbi" Singer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister, Betty Hurwitz

and brother, Richard Hurwitz.
