IN LOVING MEMORY OF
J. Delmar
Levy
December 14, 1917 – May 25, 2015
J. Delmar Levy, 97, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Rock Island, Ill., died May 25, 2015 at his home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 28th at Tri City Jewish Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation. Memorials or contributions may be made to Tri-City Jewish Center, Rock Island or to the Jewish Family & Community Services of South West Florida.
Delmar was born December 14, 1917 in Rock Island, the devoted son of Rose and Louis Levy. He married Sylvia Birndorf, November 7, 1948 in Davenport. They were married 56 years until Sylvia's death in 2005. They lived in Rock Island and vacationed in Florida until moving permanently to Naples in 2000.
Delmar worked for Walter Spector Liquors, Western Tobacco, and for many years as a buyer at Eagle Food Centers, until his retirement.
Delmar and Sylvia enjoyed being BBYO Youth Group Advisors for many years. They were beloved by all who referred to them as "Aunt Syl and Uncle Del". They were members of the Tri-City Jewish Center, where Delmar was a member of the Men's Club. They were both avid golfers belonging to Oak Wood Country Club, Coal Valley, Ill., and Glades Country Club of Naples.
He is survived by his two sisters, Maravene Levy of Aurora, Ill. and Ruth Levy of Rock Island. He is also survived by his beloved niece, Joan "Joni" Schwartz and her husband, Allan; three grand nieces; six great great nephews; a great great niece; and several loving cousins.
Special thanks to JFCS of Naples and social worker, Donna Levy, and especially to Michael Greenberg, who volunteered his time to Delmar and became like a member of his family. And finally, a special thank you to Orelia Garcia, his wonderful caregiver for her kindness and compassion.
