L. (Vruble) Verschoore
March 14, 1933 – July 23, 2021
Beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Jacqueline (Jackie) Louise Verschoore passed away on July 23, 2021, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. She was born March 14, 1933, in Jerome, IA to John and Ann Vruble. Jackie was the eldest of seven children. She attended Seymour Community High School. She was selected to play on the Iowa AAU Women's Basketball team, and toured with the international team. Upon graduation in 1951 she moved to Davenport, IA and met the love of her life, Joe Verschoore, whom she married October 31, 1953. They were wed for 62 years before Joe's passing in 2015.
During her marriage she was a true working partner with Joe, and the two were given six children. She helped manage the family farm, coached girls' basketball for St. Joseph's Jr. High for 4 years, and managed the Flamingo restaurant in Silvis, Illinois.
Jackie enjoyed traveling internationally to both Europe and the Mediterranean. She enjoyed trips to Las Vegas. She was an accomplished cook and loved family dinners and hosting parties.
Jackie is survived by her sons, John (Mary) Fishers, IN; Steve (Marta) Bettendorf, IA; David (Karen) O'Fallon, MO. Grandchildren, Ryan (Olga), Abby, Austin, and Jake; Great-grandchildren, Samuel and Nina; Sisters, Barbara, Phyllis and brother, Jim. She is preceded in death by her husband and her babies Robert, Carolyn, and Sally who were born sleeping.
Visitation will be 9:00 – 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan, IL, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 am. Entombment will be at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks for donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project & Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
Jackie's family would like to give a special thank you to the wonderful memory care staff of Friendship Manor for the loving care and kindness they have given Jackie over the years. The family would also like to give a special thank you to Compassus Hospice Care
