IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jai' Essence
La' Charvea Abbey
February 15, 2013 – April 24, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jai' Essence La' Charvea Abbey, a radiant 12-year-old girl from Davenport, who left this world on April 24, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, surrounded by the warmth and love of her mother, Yvonne. A beloved daughter, sister, and friend, Jai' Essence brightened the lives of all who knew her.
Jai' Essence was born on February 15, 2013, in Moline, Illinois, to Yvonne (Taylor) Jackson. She was a spirited sixth-grade student at Sudlow Middle School, where her vibrant personality and zest for life shone through. Jai' Essence possessed a love for singing, found joy in creating and watching TikToks, and had an endearing talent for bringing smiles—even if it meant giving her family and friends a little bit of a hard time.
A funeral service to honor her beautiful life will take place at 11:30 am on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island, Illinois. Prior to the service, family and friends will gather for a visitation from 10 to 11:30 am at the funeral home. Jai' Essence will find her final resting place at Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa, where she will be remembered and celebrated by all her loved ones.
Jai' Essence is survived by her devoted mother and stepfather, Yvonne Jackson and Casey Westerfield of Davenport; her beloved sister, Nashicka Taylor-Hughes; her caring brother, Marquayvion Hughes; her grandmother, Meta Abbey; her loving great-grandmother, Ruthie Owens; and a host of cherished aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins who will carry her memory in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Darlene Coulibaly; great-grandparents, Helen Johnson and Gracie and James Taylor; and aunt, Nashicka McBride.
Memorial contributions in Jai' Essence's name may be made in care of her family, ensuring that her spirit of joy and kindness continues to inspire those she has touched.
As we come together to remember and celebrate Jai' Essence's life, we invite all who knew her to share their memories and express their condolences online at wheelanpressly.com. Let us honor her legacy with love and laughter, just as she would have wanted.
