James R. "Bubba" Potter, 61, of Milan, died Monday, May 19, 2014 at his home. Services will be 1 pm Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Visitation will be an hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Illinois City Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of the family.

James was born in Moline on May 15, 1953, a son of Lawrence W. Potter Jr. and Helen Boelyn Potter. James graduated from Rockridge High School in 1971. He married Kathleen Eddy on December 30, 1976. They later divorced.

James was a machinist for Williams, White and Company, Moline, for 18 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening and cooking.

Survivors include his daughters, Candace Potter, Centerville, Iowa and Cynthia (Dave) Fisher, Unionville, Mo.; grandchildren, Jamison, David, Terence and Kenneth Craig, all of Unionville, Mo.; brother, Gary (Kathy) Potter, Illinois City, Ill.; and best friends, Mike and Deb Tate and their children, Dalton, Traci and Ethan Tate, of Reynolds, Ill.

James was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David.
