James E. Haronik, 76, of Silvis, formerly of Moline, died Thursday, April 14, 2016 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 3 pm. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline.
James was born Dec. 30, 1939 in Milan, a son of Alvin J. and Evelyn R. Mandel Haronik. He married Leonette M. "Lea" Mielke on Aug. 19, 1972 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline.
He graduated from Alleman High School and St. Ambrose College. James retired in 2000 after 34 1/2 years of government service, having worked for the Dept. of the Army at the Rock Island Arsenal.
Jim served as a sergeant in the Illinois National Guard and with the US Army Reserves. He was a long time active member at St. Mary's Catholic Church, serving as an Eucharistic Minister, Mass server and money counter. He had volunteered as a scout leader and had also served as a timer for Alleman High School track and cross country meets. Jim enjoyed woodworking and made furniture and other useful items for his home, children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful Husband, Dad, and Papa.
Survivors include his wife, Leonette; children, Ann (Britt) Maier, Mason, Ohio, David (Heather) Haronik, Lake Zurich, Ill., and Julie Haronik, Rock Island; grandchildren, Derek and Kyle Haronik, and Lizzie, Katie, and Abbie Maier; sisters, Sister Veronica Haronik V.H.M., St. Louis, Kathryn Hall, Silvis, Beverly (Richard) Rausch, Edina, Minn., and Cynthia Sullivan, Davenport; brothers, Martin (Coni) Haronik, Knoxville, Iowa, and John Haronik (Jeff Goldman), Sacramento, Calif.; brother-in-law, Daniel VanLandegen, Aledo; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Theresa VanLandegen.
