James Allen Hill, 69, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday February 3, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous fight with lung cancer for over a year.

Services will be 10:00am Friday at Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers memorial may be left to Two Rivers United Methodist Church or QC Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
James was born on October 20, 1945 in Davenport, the son of Ira and Welthy (Dennison) Hill. He married Ruth Potts on September 23, 1972 in Newportville, PA.

James had been employed with the United States Postal Service for 31 years, retiring in April 2009.
He was a member of Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Ruth; daughter, Megan and Dan Marcus, Orland Park, IL; son, Adam and Sarah Hill, Walcott; 4 grandchildren, Evan, Abigail, Henry, Hannah and brother, Stanley Hill, Pleasant Valley, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hoyt Acree; sisters, Velda Hass and Reba Wildman.

Mr. Hill was a United States Army Veteran having served in Vietnam. He received the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star.
