James “Jim” W. Dunn, age 87, of Milan, Illinois, formerly of Hornell, New York, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family at Avonlea Cottage. Born on September 6, 1938, in Hornell, New York, he was the cherished son of Theodore and Hazel (Whitford) Dunn.
Jim honorably served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963. Following his service, he found both love and purpose when he married his soulmate, Bonnie Remchuk, on May 29, 1965, in his hometown of Hornell. Jim’s dedication to hard work and community became evident during his long tenure of 38 years with Deere and Company after relocating to the Quad Cities. He started his career at the local John Deere Harvester shops and then moved up the ranks as a computer operator. He then moved on to be a system analyst before moving into a management position. He retired from John Deere Parts Distribution Center.
A devoted husband for 60 years, Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie; their two children, Kelly (Dunn) Swick and Robert (Toni Klein) Dunn; and cherished grandchildren, Kathryn and Patterson Dunn. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond (Margaret) Dunn, and a niece, Marie. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marjorie (Don) Area. Jim was known for his love of the outdoors and enjoyed tending to his yard; skills honed during his upbringing on a Hereford cattle farm where he learned the values of hard work and dedication. He also had a passion for travel and found joy in watching science shows, reflecting his curiosity about the world around him. As a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Milan, he embraced and shared his faith with all.
A memorial service for Jim will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:00 am at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Milan. Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Milan. Jim will be inurned at Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered in recognition of his service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim's name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Jim’s legacy of love, dedication, and service will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. Condolences can be shared with the family online at www.wheelanpressly.com.
