James Leo "Jim" McManus, 84, of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island, Illinois.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan, Illinois. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Jim's family.
Jim was born on November 29, 1940, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Bernard and Edith Minnie (Hamerlinck) McManus. He graduated from Alleman High School in 1959. On January 27, 1962, he married Patricia L. Guinn at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan, Illinois.
Jim spent more than 31 years working at John Deere Plow and Planter, where he was known for his strong work ethic. He took only one unpaid day of leave during his entire career and served the company from November 14, 1961, to July 31, 1992.
Jim was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He took great pride in caring for his yard and could often be found outside tending to it or tinkering with something in the garage. His yard was his pride and joy. Jim loved watching Westerns and cherished any opportunity to lend a hand. He was a devoted and generous man who never hesitated to help others, especially his brother, John, on the farm whenever he could.
Those left to honor Jim's memory include his wife of 63 years, Pat; children, Alan (Linda) McManus, Blue Grass, IA, Kristine (Scott) Melton, AR, Lisa (David) Lee, AR, and Ryan McManus, Taylor Ridge, IL; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy McManus and Theresa (Darrell) Bush; and brother, John (Rosie) McManus.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Kim; grandson, Dane; great-granddaughter, Isabella; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Kenneth McGinnis; and brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Mary Ann McManus.
