James E. Lavell, 71, of Rock Island, died Monday, March 23, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be presented by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299.
James Edward Lavell was born Nov. 6, 1943 in Rock Island, a son of Edward and Dolores "Orzie" Maxwell Lavell. He married Judith A. Spiegel on Apr. 20, 1974 in Rock Island.
Jim graduated from Alleman High School in 1961. He then graduated from Wentworth Military Academy, Lexington, Mo., and later attended Western Illinois University, Macomb. He served as a police officer for the city of Rock Island from 1968 to 1988. Jim later did private security, as well as security for the President Riverboat Casino, Davenport.
He was a U.S. Army Vietnam era veteran. Jim was an avid golfer. He loved being with family and friends and enjoyed all the times they were together.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; sons and daughter-in-law, Doug and Pamela Lavell, Chicago, Trent Lavell, Apopka, Fla., and Luke Lavell, Rock Island; grandchildren, Sydney Lavell, Fishers, Ind., and Colton Lavell, Chicago; brother, Edward "Ned" Lavell, Rock Island; sister-in-law, Karen Lavell, Rock Island; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Tim Lavell.
