Obituary

James A. Maynard, 84, a lifelong resident of Rock Island, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at his home.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. Burial is at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church.

James Alan Maynard was born June 19, 1930 in Rock Island, a son of Earl and Ruth Tanner Maynard. He married Patricia M. Smith on Oct. 14, 1961 in Rock Island.

Jim graduated from Rock Island High School in 1947 and attended Augustana College. He was the co-owner of Crawford Heating and Cooling, Rock Island. Jim spent 25 years of his last working years at Crawford, growing the company in which he was successful and retiring in 1998.

He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army and Illinois National Guard. Jim was also a lifelong member of First United Presbyterian Church, which later became Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, where he actively participated on committees, sang in the choir and was an Elder and Deacon. He was past president of the Whitefish Lake Properties Owner's Association in Stone Lake, Wis., where he and his wife, Pat, had a home and enjoyed many summers.

Jim was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed most sports, including, golf, tennis, volleyball, racquet ball, duck hunting, snow and water skiing and baseball, having played on a semi-pro team. He was a great handyman, but more importantly a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Wendy (Rev. William) Ramsdale, Rock Island, Kristin (Abder) Elouadrhiri, Chicago, and James (Lisa) Maynard, Rock Island; grandchildren, Rob, Brannon (Allison), Nick (Chelsea), Darien, Keonna, Brayden, Madysen, and Cameron Ramsdale, Elena and Evan Elouadrhiri and Andrew, Nathan, Margo, Carolyn and Meredith Maynard; great-grandchildren, Ayla and Emery Ramsdale; and his brother, Earl Maynard Jr., Elk Grove Village, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents.
