In loving memory of James Robert Prochaska.

It is with deep sadness, we announce that James "Jim" Prochaska took his "last call" at 1:51am on August 4th 2026 at the age of 85, surrounded by loved ones.

James Robert Prochaska son of Harold & Rose Prochaska was born at home in Maple Leaf, Iowa on September 26th 1940. He was the fourth born of six kids.

Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife LaVonne, sons; infant James, Jason James and James Harold. His Survivors include his daughter Frana, son in law Jack, grandson Vael James.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 3-7 p.m. at Wheelen-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 East 4th Avenue, Milan. A Mass and funeral will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Church, Rock Island with a visitation 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at McCarthy Hall at St. Pius X Church. Burial Services to follow in Calvary Cemetery Rock Island. A celebration of life immediately following at Jim’s Knoxville Tap.

Jim was a beloved larger-than-life family man, with an even bigger heart. He had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcome, offer a listening ear, warm smile and unwavering support. He truly made everyone feel like family.

Him and his wife, LaVonne started Jim's Knoxville Tap in 1966 which they owned and operated for 60 years! His kindness and generosity touched many lives throughout the community not only did he donate his time, but he was always available whenever anyone needed a hand. His charismatic personality aided him in many facets of life. From auctioneering at the sale barn, to coaching baseball leading them to several National Titles, a community leader, helping with church functions, fundraisers for various charities- out of which he had a passion for Saint Jude Children's Hospital because it was "for the kid's". Above all family came first! Not just immediate family or blood-also his the Knoxville family.

Jim lived a life defined by faith, love and endless laughter. His resilience and ability to see the good in every one around him positively influenced the life of many. He was a spiritual pillar, proud member of the Knights of Columbus and was blessed with 12 God children.

He found happiness in the simple moments, time spent with family and friends, being outdoors, singing (he played the tuba in his young adult life in his parents Polka Band), and above all, cherished his time with his grandson Vael "Spoonter". He made sure to attend every game, every event and was Vael’s number one fan. Just like how he sang on the lawnmower he used his boisterous voice throughout the events and will continue to cheer him on from heaven.

Jim’s legacy of togetherness and kindness left a mark that will never be forgotten. He would want us all to keep smiling, keep loving each other without judgement and as his mother said, never stop singing!!
