James "Whopper" R. Montegna, 82, of Milan, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at UPH-Trinity, Rock Island.
Memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the family.
James was born November 11, 1932, in Centerville, IA, the son of Carlo and Beulah (Whalen) Montegna. He married Patricia Dooley, she preceded him in death. James was employed and retired from John Deere Co. Plow Planter. He took great pride in his career.
James was well known for the immaculate condition of all his vehicles, especially his beloved black Dodge RT. He enjoyed hopping in his truck and taking long drives, a lot of those drives were to Boyd's Bologna in Washington, IA to bring home his family that Ring Bologna. He enjoyed walking along Sunset Marina in Rock Island and feeding the ducks that gathered at Ben Butterworth Parkway. James will be remembered by many for his outgoing, upbeat, and fun personality. He could make anyone smile with his signature "hooie hooie" and old time rhymes.
Survivors include his daughter, Vickie Jaster, Milan; grandchildren, Chris Reynolds and Jennifer Hayes, both of Milan; great grandchildren, Alexis Reynolds, Carenn McConnell, and McQuinn Cornett; sisters, Antoinette Kennedy and Pattie Ann Kennedy, both of Kelley, IA; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia; his parents; and his siblings.
