James L. Remy, 79, of Milan, died Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.  There will be no visitation.  A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Preemption Cemetery, Preemption, Ill. where military honors will be conducted.  Those wishing to attend should meet at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, by 2:30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the American Cancer Society or to the family.

James was born in Bagley, Wisc. on February 3, 1938, a son of Arthur and Cora Tindell Ready.  At 4 months old, James' father, Arthur, died.  Later, Cora married Russell Remy who adopted James as his own.  James married Joyce Williams on June 29, 1962 in Milan.

James was a U.S. Navy veteran.  He worked as an electrician for the MidAmerican Energy, formerly known as Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric company, for 37 years, retiring in 1996.

James enjoyed collecting coins and was a member of the Quad City Coin Club.  He also enjoyed woodworking, genealogy, jigsaw puzzles and was a fanatic Chicago Cubs fan.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joyce Remy, Milan; children, James S. Remy, Sherrard, Ill. and Jacqueline (Mike Chiavario)Johnson and John C. Remy, both of Milan; grandchildren, James and Jeffrey Remy and Kyle (Alex Crumley) Johnson, Conner Goodwin and Kaylee Chiavario; and siblings, Donna (Harold) Anderson and Ron (Marsha) Remy, both of Moline.

He was preceded in death by all of his parents, daughter-in-law, Darath Lejuntuk and sister, Nancy Cozadd.
