James "Jim" C. Ryckaert, 79, of Taylor Ridge died at 7:30 pm, Wednesday, February 27th, 2019 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, March 5th at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Monday, March 4th at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Memorials may be made to Alleman High School, or St Ambrose Catholic Church.
Jim was born on September 13, 1939 in Rock Island, a son of Cyriel and Alma Bush Ryckaert. He married Barbara Holtzer on April 28, 1962 in Rock Island. Jim served in the U.S Army Reserves in the early 1960's. Jim was employed at Deere Seeding Group retiring after a 37-year career. He was a longtime member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan.
Jim was a very caring, humble and easy-going person. He was a dedicated husband of 56 years, father, grandpa and great-grandpa. Jim loved to fish (especially in Minnesota), traveling, ski, golf, bicycling, volunteering, especially at the food pantry, and he helped build the three homes the family lived in. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
In the 1970's, Jim served as a Trustee on the Blackhawk Township Board and in the1980's, he served as a Rock Island County Board Member. Later he served on the Blackhawk Fire Protection District Board, and the Rock Island County Zoning Board of Appeals.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ryckaert, Taylor Ridge; sons, Greg (Tammy) Ryckaert, Moline, Jeff (Jennifer) Ryckaert, West Dundee, Ill., and Michael (Lisa) Ryckaert, Taylor Ridge; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers, Harold (Judy) Ryckaert, Larry (Suzie Josephson) Ryckaert, and Steve (Adele) Ryckaert; and a sister, Shirley (Mike) Wynes. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Samuel.
