James E. Steele Sr., 88, of Moline, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, died Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center, Moline. Services will be 1:00 pm Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be an hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made in care of the family.

James was born in Quincy, Ill. on November 11, 1925, a son of Andrew and Ernest Steele. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

James worked construction for several different companies over the last 40 years.

He is survived by his children (and spouses); James (Kimberly) Steele Jr., Rock Island, Sharon (Lane) Whitley, Tulsa, Okla., Mona Steele, Hawthorne, Calif., Tina Steele, Ottumwa, Iowa, Geraldine Steele, St. Paul, Minn., Harry Steele, Iowa City, Marlene Steele-Bell, Ottumwa, Iowa and Jackie Steele, Hawthorne, Calif.; stepson, Allen Sharp; 16 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
