James Teague, 94, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday January 11, 2017 at his home.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church, Rock Island, where visitation will be 9 to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island.
James was born September 7, 1922 in Paris, Tenn., a son of Savannah and Iona Teague. He married Sharline R. "Shorty" Teague on October 9, 1942 in Davenport. She preceded him in death on August 12, 2010.
He worked for over 40 years at the Foundry Works of John Deere. Mr. Teague was a member of Second Baptist Church, Rock Island, and the Active Club and Morningstar Club. He also served in the Neighborhood Watch program.
In earlier years he was a boy scout leader and coached baseball at Douglas Park. James was an avid hunter, enjoyed gardening at his home, and could repair anything.
Surviving are his children(and spouses), James (Karen) Teague, Rock Island, Dennis (Patrice) Teague, Seattle, Leon Teague (June Johnson), Davenport, Brenda (John) Ewing, Rock Island, Kenneth (Yevgeniya) Teague, Seattle, and Courtney (Ruth) Peeples, South Carolina; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Emma Payne, Chicago, Arnetta Miller, Springfield, OH; aunt, Mildred Puckett, Puryear, Tenn., a host of nieces, nephews, and other family; and special friends, Ida and Moe Robinson family, Mildred Huff family, Johnson family, Althea Redd family, Babe Bulgen, Effie Babers, Albert Barber and LaRondia Vesey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one granddaughter; two great great grandchildren; brothers, Sylvester, Edward and Frank Teague; and sister Olia Byrd.
