James Frederick Terrill, 84, of Milan, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Riverwood Rehab, East Moline. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made in care of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
James was born on November 9, 1930 in Eliza Township, Mercer County, Ill., a son of Fred and Sarah Cozad Terrill. He served in the Illinois National Guard from 1952 - 1954.
James married Janice L. Johnston in 1951 in Edgington, Ill. She preceded him in death in 2000.
James worked for Diamond Truck Line for many years, retiring in June of 1994.
James was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan, National Hikers and Campers Association and the Hawkeye Ramblers.
James loved fishing and camping. Mostly, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed making camping lights. In his younger years, he also enjoyed riding Harley Davidson's. He would take long trips and participate in hill climbs.
Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Terrill, Milan; granddaughters, Angela (Jarrod) Lindley, Milan, Danielle (Jeff) Holdsworth, Aledo and Sarah (Dane) Hoyt, Moline; seven great-grandchildren; brother, William E. (Nancy) Terrill, Cartersville, GA; and daughter-in-law, Billie Terrill, Milan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son, Stanley Terrill, grandson, C.J. Lindley and 4 brothers and sisters.
