Jan Chovanec, 88, of Milan, passed away Saturday March 19, 2016 at St. Anthony's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rock Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:00am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation will be from 9:00am to 10:00am Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow at Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan is assisting the family.  Memorials may be left to St. Ambrose Catholic Church's Restore and Renew Campaign.

Jan was born on April 19, 1927 in Presov, Slovakia, the son of Jan Chovanec and Anna Szaloky. He married Marcia Hruncak.

Mr. Chovanec had been employed as a master mason and carpenter with R & M Can Do Shop and had previously worked at the former St. Anthony's Hospital.

He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan

Survivors include his wife of 61 years; son and daughter in law, David (Sue) Chovanec; daughter and son in law, Suzanne (George "Jesse") Fickinger; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
