Jane F. Grahlmann, 81, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 at the Evangelical Home, Saline, Mich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Entombment will be in the Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to: Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat, 820 W Central Park Ave., Davenport, IA 52804
Jane Frances Madden was born Nov. 14, 1932 in Rock Island, the daughter of James F. and Mary Jane Hickman Madden. She married William E. Grahlmann on Sept. 17, 1955 in Rock Island. He died Nov. 18, 2006.
Jane graduated from Marycrest College, Davenport, where she received a bachelor's degree in business. She worked as the bookkeeper at the Villa de Chantal, Rock Island from 1972 to 1992. Jane served on the Board of Education for the Rock Island Public School District from 1977 to 1991 and was the Board's president from 1978 to 1991.
She was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, where she had been a member of the funeral choir, adult choir, REACH, attended Bible studies, and was a member the Prayer Shawl Ministries and specifically the Prayer, Stitches and Hugs group and served as a greeter at the 11 am Mass. Jane was involved with the Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat Center and was also a member and past State of Illinois president of the American Association of University Women. She enjoyed traveling, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James and Nancy Grahlmann, Firestone, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Bruce Glanville, Ann Arbor, Mich.; grandchildren, Christi Hill, Poplar Grove, Ill., Melissa (Randall) Moore, Olathe, Kan., Andrea (Tony) Lopez, Aurora, Colo., Anthony (Julie) Grahlmann, Raleigh, N.C., David Glanville, Ypsilanti, Mich., Ian Glanville, Lakewood, Colo., Alec Glanville, Ann Arbor, and Meaghan Glanville, Athens, Ohio; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bill.
