Jane Massey, 77, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at St. James Lutheran Church. Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Island. Memorials may be made in Jane’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Jane was born on November 16, 1948, in Geneseo, Illinois, the daughter of John and Neva (Fowler) Hungerford. Following high school, she earned her nursing degree and devoted her life to caring for others through her work in healthcare and elder services. She began her nursing career at the former Moline Public Hospital and later served as Director of Amber Ridge Memory Care in Moline. Jane eventually retired from St. Anthony’s, where she worked as a wound care nurse.
Jane was active in her community and dedicated to serving others. She previously served as President of the Elderly Consortium Board and was a devoted member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she served on the church board and contributed in many other capacities over the years. In earlier years, she also gave her time as a Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s troop in earlier years. Above all, Jane cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Jane is survived by her children: Scott Massey of Cape Coral, FL; AJ Massey of Rock Island, IL; and Todd Massey of North Hillsdale, IL; her grandchildren, Andre McKinney, Brooke Massey, Emily Massey, Clayton Massey, Anden McKinney, Carson Massey, Alec McKinney, Cailey Massey, Cairece Allen, Tyia Schauland, and Ebony McDonald; and her siblings: Jack (Cheryl) Hungerford of Naples, FL; Jim (Jody) Hungerford of Saginaw, TX; Joan (Kevin) Kempher of Washington, IL; and Jean (Ron) Contillo of Sarasota, FL, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Neva Hungerford, and her sister, Judy Bodeen.
