Jane A. Showalter, of Rock Island, passed away at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City on her birthday, the 29th of June at the age of 87. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am, Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Following the service at church a luncheon will be held in McCarthy Hall. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alleman High School or to the Women's Choice Center, Bettendorf. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Jane was born on June 29, 1936, in Rock Island, a daughter of Albert and Elvira Vandebrande. She attended The Villa de Chantel in Rock Island, Alleman High School (1954), and Marycrest College (1958). Jane married Richard G. Miller in June of 1958 and together they had 3 children, Steven, David, and Lynda. Jane's husband, Richard, passed away in 1996 and in 2005 she married Jack Showalter, a classmate from Alleman High School. Jane was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and for many years was very active in the Altar and Rosary Society and the Servants of Christ Charismatic Prayer Group. She was famous for the varieties of cookies she had baked over the years. Jane and Jack spent the winter in Casa Grande, Arizona, and they were also members of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Jane was also a member of the Moline Activity Center where she enjoyed her many friendships and their activities.

Survivors include her husband, Jack; a son, David (Linda) Miller; stepchildren, Pam (Bill) Anderson, Casey (Jane) Showalter, Joseph (Kelly) Showalter, and John (Colleen) Showalter; a granddaughter, Coreen Miller; seven step grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Richard; daughter, Lynda Vande Walle; and a son, Steven Miller.
