Obituary

Janet (Rosenthal) Cockran-Toliver, 67, passed away at University of Iowa Medical Center, Iowa City on Saturday, June 25, 2022, her spirit, returning unto God who gave it.  Above all, Janet was a Christ woman, a Christian, who loved the Lord and held dear the promises of Almighty God.  As a woman of faith, the family finds comfort and peace of mind knowing she now resides in the merciful and loving presence of our Heavenly Father.

Janet was born January 23, 1955, in Rock Island, the daughter of George and Janet Lutz Rosenthal.  As the only girl in the family that included five brothers, Janet was affectionately referred to as, Sissy.  Sissy, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt was a spirited, loving, hard-working, honest, forthright woman with strong feelings and opinions who was not bashful in sharing her thoughts with anyone whether requested, or not.  She was a strong woman, trusting in the Lord; that trust never more apparent than after sustaining a debilitating injury that rendered her permanently disabled in 2014.  Despite her disability, she continued to live independently in her home with the help of family and friends until the time of her passing.

Sissy was a registered professional nurse. She held several positions including Staff Nurse, Case Manager, and Director of Nursing.  Her career spanned 31 years providing care to patients in various settings, including Quad City and surrounding area hospitals, nursing homes, assisted-living facilities as well as care to home-bound patients.

Prior to her disability, Sissy's interests included her work, music, and dancing.  Post disability, she focused on the love and affection of "Yoda" her chihuahua, and a recognition of family.  Sissy will be terribly missed.  That fact is tempered with the knowledge that she is now with passed family members who love the Lord, and the knowledge that, for those who remain and serve the Lord, that we will see her again, all to the glory of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.

Janet is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Austin and Holly Cockran, grandchildren, Caeden Zvonik, Aeriona and Aaliyah Cockran, stepmother, Treva Rosenthal, brothers and sisters-in-law, Steven and Kerry Rosenthal, James and Michelle Rosenthal, and Brad Rosenthal, nephews and nieces, Steven Rosenthal, Jacob, Daniel, and Madison Rosenthal, Mitchell and Kourtney Griffin, and Michael and Kayla Stange.

Janet was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edward and Audrey Rosenthal and Joe and Harriet Lutz, parents, George and Janet Rosenthal, stepfather Michael Stange, brothers, Joel and Ryan Rosenthal and David Stange, as well as her nephew, Benjamin Rosenthal.

In accordance with Janet's wishes, private family services and inurnment will be held at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.  Arrangements are entrusted to Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island.  Janet loved animals.  In lieu of flowers, if so moved, memorials may be made to QC PAWS, 4001 - 78th Avenue, Moline, Illinois 61265.
