Janet Ruth Fitzpatrick, 90, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island, Illinois. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to Grace Church PC(USA), Rock Island or Monarch Watch (https://monarchwatch.org/donate/) in Janet’s memory.
Janet was born on April 30, 1936, in Moline, Illinois, a daughter of Guy O. and Elsie M. (Dean) Hodson. She graduated from Rock Island High School and married the love of her life, Jack E. Fitzpatrick, on January 5, 1958, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on November 6, 2021.
Janet worked as a Medicare specialist at Medical Arts. She was a longtime active member of Grace Church PC(USA) in Rock Island, where she enjoyed being involved in the life of her church and community. Janet had a love for traveling and baking, and she especially enjoyed raising and releasing Monarch butterflies. She was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Above all, Janet loved spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish Janet’s memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Tami and Jeff Claus; grandchildren, Frank (Tabitha) Fitzpatrick, Emma (Michael) Kaschke, Claire (Kevin) Wood, Ken (Amanda) Claus, Emily (Jake) Tomlinson, and Eric (Brianna) Claus; great-grandchildren, Tyler Alagic, Jayda and Olyvia Fitzpatrick, Stephen and Jack Kaschke, Dakota and Virgil Wood, Eden and Briar Claus, Calvin, Finan, and Elise Tomlinson, and Wyatt and Willow Claus; sister, Virginia Shipman; and many other family members.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; her son, Todd Fitzpatrick; her brother, Richard Hodson; her granddaughter, Ashley Dunkirk; and her great-granddaughter, Emma Fitzpatrick.
Janet’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Friendship Manor and the medical ICU staff at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island, for the compassionate care and kindness they provided.
