It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Janice Fae Collis, who left us peacefully on September 14, 2025, at the age of 69. She was born on January 24, 1956, in Tracy City, Tennessee, the daughter of Mitchell and Frances "Pauline" (Keel) Curtis.
Graveside services will be held in her honor at the Rock Island National Cemetery on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should meet at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island by 9:15 am. A celebration of life will be held at Countryside Christian Church on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11:30 AM. The address is 3817 230th St. N. Port Byron, IL 61275.
Janice proudly served in the United States Army from October 12, 1976, until her honorable discharge on October 11, 1979. After her military service, she married Michael Collis on May 21, 1983, in Hampton, IL. Janice worked diligently at 3M, holding several positions, demonstrating her strong work ethic.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Janice found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Those who knew Janice understood that nothing in life meant more than family-especially her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. They were the center of her world, and her love from them will live on in their hearts forever. She also was an avid cook, whose meals brought warmth and comfort to those around her. Her passion for gardening allowed her to cultivate not just plants, but also a nurturing spirit that touched the hearts of many. Janice cherished her time spent with friends, particularly during the bustling Black Friday shopping events-a tradition that sparked excitement and laughter in her life.
Janice leaves behind her loving husband, Michael Collis; daughter, Jami (Matthew) Barden; grandchildren Alexia, Nate, Mackenzie, Madi and Ethan Barden; sister, Pamela (Mark) Jaques; and brother-in-law, John Sherman, all of whom meant the world to her. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Lynda Gail Curtis, James Curtis, Darrell Curtis, Sylvia Posner, and Fran Sherman.
