Jean Moser Roth, 94, of Rock Island, died Friday, June 17, 2016 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island. Visitation will be Friday, June 24, from 1- 2 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented by the Moline American Legion Post 246. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should meet at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to Broadway Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, or to the American Red Cross.
Jean was born in St. Joseph, Mo. on May 1, 1922, a daughter of Frank E. and Bettie Kountz Moser. She married Robert R. Roth on Sept. 27, 1944 in Denver, CO. He preceded her in death in 2006. Jean received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1944 from the University of Missouri.
She retired in 1984 from the Rock Island/Milan School District #41 where she was a school nurse from 1977 to 1984. She previously worked as an instructor of Student Nurses at St. Anthony's Hospital, Rock Island, from 1966-1970, and was a Charge Nurse at St. Anthony's from 1947-1953. She served as a nurse in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Jean was a member and past elder of Broadway Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. She was also a member of the Broadway Presbyterian Church Circle Woman's Association , American Red Cross, American Association of University Women, and Chapter JI PEO Sisterhood. She was former leader for Girl Scouts of America and 4-H. She was past member of South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island.
Survivors include her children (and spouses), Philip F. (Landee) Roth, Sumter, SC, and Bette R. (Dennis) Haase, Centennial, CO; four grandsons, Ryan (Lisa) Roth, Eric (Danielle) Roth, Justin Haase, and Derek Haase; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty M. Price, St. Joseph, MO, and Donna M. (David) Faust, Raytown, MO; and sister-in-law, Dorothea Moser, Savannah, MO.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a daughter, Linda D. Roth,
three granddaughters, and her brother, Frank E. Moser, Jr.
