Jean M. Doden, 95, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Silver Cross Pavilion at Friendship Manor.  A funeral service will be 1 pm Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island.  Visitation will be from 12 – 1 pm Thursday, June 8, 2023 at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  Memorials may be made in care of Shriners Hospital for Children or Church of Peace United Church of Christ.

Jean was born in rural Davenport, Iowa on October, 20, 1927, a daughter of Gilbert and Violet LaFrentz Ruehmann.  She graduated from Davenport High School in 1945 and attended the University of Iowa.  In earlier years, she was a secretary for Minneapolis Honeywell and later assisted her husband in his family's pharmacy.

Jean married Herbert F. Doden Jr. on July 9, 1949 in Davenport, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on January 18, 2019.

Jean was a member of Church of Peace United Church of Christ.  She enjoyed needlework, loved to read history books and was an avid University of Iowa fan.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Rick (Kate) Doden, Hansville, Wash. and Heidi (Vere) Palmer, Belgrade, Mont.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Marybeth (Doden) Whitten, Highland Village, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
