M. Jean Sonnhalter, 91 of Rock Island, died Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island.  Inurnment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.  Visitation is 10 am until service time Tuesday at the church with a rosary recited at 10 am.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.  Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or to Friendship Manor – Silver Cross Nursing Center.

Martha Jean Sonnhalter was born Nov. 20, 1926 in Barberton, Ohio, a daughter of Karl and May Bartel Sonnhalter.  She worked in the public relations department of Firestone Tire and Rubber, Akron, Ohio for 34 years.

She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.  Jean was a volunteer tutor with a literacy program in Akron and was active with the Akron Area Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.

Our favorite aunt is survived by nieces, Carolyn Bileddo and Liz Tanaka; nephews, Tim (Dee) McNeil, Tom (Barb) McNeil, Mick (Bobbi) McNeil, Joe (Maria) McNeil, Jim (Maripat) Sonnhalter and Paul and Lee Sonnhalter; and great-niece, Missy (Kevin) Buessing.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Eleanor and Mary; and brother, John.
