Jeffrey "Bub" L. Barnes, 78, of Milan departed this world on Monday, November 18, 2024 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Jeff was born on November 1, 1946 in Moline, Illinois, alongside his twin sister, Janice, to parents Roy and Violet (Kuchan) Barnes. He married Linda Wells on December 27, 1969 and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage together. From his earliest days, Jeff's loving personality and enormous heart touched the lives of all he encountered. His kindness was limitless, and he never met a stranger. He was always there to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors.
Jeff dedicated over 37 years of service to the Rock Island Arsenal before retiring in 2003.
Jeff's hobbies included spending time outdoors, gardening, coaching, fishing and enjoying car shows. He spent over 30 years coaching with the Rock Island Girls Softball League and coaching fifth through eighth grade girls' basketball at Jordan Catholic School alongside Jim Ghrer. He spent countless hours volunteering at St. Pius X Catholic Church, St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, Jordan Catholic School and the Jordan Booster Club. Jeff was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan and Iowa Hawkeye Fan.
Jeff was a devoted Catholic, a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Jeff leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Linda Barnes; daughters, Mary (Matthew) Goumas and Kate (William) Camp; and granddaughters, Madelyn and Megan.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents and twin sister, Janice Ketron.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 am on Friday, November 22, 2024 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave, Rock Island, 61201, with a rosary to be recited at 3:30 pm. Memorials contributions may be directed to the Jordan Booster Club, Rock Island Girls Softball League or St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at St. Pius.
As we honor and celebrate his life, let us find peace in the countless memories and take comfort in knowing his spirit will forever shine brightly in our hearts. Please consider volunteering or performing an act of kindness in his honor.
