Jerley Mae Shelton, 74, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Jerley Mae Shelton was born November 7, 1942 in Baxter, Arkansas in Drew County, the daughter of Ardell Robertson and Toney Robinson Jr.  She was nurtured and raised by her maternal grandparents Rhodia and Arnald Robertson.

Jerley was known to her family and friends as a giving person who had genuine interest in others, she always strived to treat others better than she wanted to be treated.  She had a love for the bible and spend time studying it as one of Jehovahs' witnesses.  She dedicated her life to Jehovah God and regularly shared her Christian beliefs with others.  She will be remembered as doing all she could until the day of her death.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories a devoted husband of 54 years, Solomon Shelton Sr.; siblings, Shirbie J. Orr, Joyce (Scotty) Butler, Shirley Scott, Toney Robinson III, Nawasa Campbell, Doyle Robertson, and Rickey Robinson; six children, Darryl O'Neil Henry, Solomon Shelton Jr. (Debbie), Tasha Forrest (Roger Kerr), Mark Shelton, Constance Chance (Lonnie Westerfield), Timothy Shelton (Tanisha); 24 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and many spiritual brothers and sisters.  Jerley was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Rudolph Applegate.
