Jesse L. Vann, 86 of Rock Island, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, with his family by his side.

Private services are Saturday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. There is no visitation. Burial is at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to WDLM Radio, East Moline.

Jesse Lee Vann was born Aug. 12, 1927 in Hamilton, Ala., a son of Webster and Margie Cantrell Vann. He married Lois Lorene Lockhart on Dec. 4, 1948 in Fulton, Miss.

Jesse was a repair technician and had worked for Supreme T.V. and Appliance.

He was of Baptist faith. Jesse enjoyed playing golf, dominos and the guitar. In his younger days, he and his sisters traveled to neighboring churches and while his sisters sang he played the guitar. His greatest loved was for his family, having a special fondness for his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; granddaughters, Mary (Tom) Goetzman, North Henderson, Ill., Verlet Meier, Mobley, Mo., Janette (Mark) Creger, Rock Island, Marie (Brian) Tschopp, Sherrard and Kristy (Pete) Smith, Lynn Center; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and sisters and brothers, Ovil Taylor, Iva Ford, Etta Saget, Paulette Crosby, Webster T. Vann and David Vann. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alla Hendrix; and brother, Junior Vann.
