Jewel E. Dunsmoor, 71, of Rock Island, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014, at Unity Point Health - Trinity, Rock Island.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Greenview Cemetery, East Moline, following the service. Memorials may be made to the family.

Jewel was born October 27, 1942, in Metropolis, the daughter of Juel and Nellie (Barton) Anderson. She married Larry Dunsmoor on May 20, 1995, in Moline.

Jewel Dunsmoor is more than her love of reading, crafts, bingo and yard selling, she was a giver and a fighter. She helped raise many kids other than her own 5 kids, 8 step-kids and 3 foster kids, everyone in town knew her as "mother" because of her giving and caring heart. She was there for anyone who needed her, many had the world turn their backs on them and that's where Jewel stepped in, she would give the shirt off her back to help someone in need and often worked 3 jobs and opened her home to those in need. This one of a kind woman with a one of a kind heart will not be forgotten by any person she's come across.

Jewel will be remembered by her husband Larry Dunsmoor; her mother Nellie Anderson; her children, Clarence (Bonnie Caroll) Lester, Jack (Vikki) Lester, David Lester, Melissa (John) Jackson, Danny Birdsley, David Birdsley, Robin Doss, and Doug (Betsy) Birdsley; her adopted son Korey Brasmer; her step-children Bridgette, Dawn, Heather, and Heidi Dunsmoor; her 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and her brother Roy Anderson. She was preceded in death by her father Juel Anderson; her son Dean Lester; and her three sisters, Eva Adams, Nellie Weinerhoff, and Joann Brasmer.
