Jimmie R. Whitten, 74, of Moline, died Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at UnityPoint Health- Trinity Rock Island. Services will be 10 am Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4:30 pm followed by a Masonic service at 4:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented. Memorials may be made in care of the Homewood Evangelical Free Church, Moline or to the Mexican American Veterans Association, Hero Street Chapter 4 (M.A.V.A.).

Jimmie was born in Indianapolis, Ind. on July 23, 1942, a son of Jimmie and Jane Talbot Whitten. He married Linda Newingham who preceded him in death. He later married Betty Baraks in June of 1988 in Nashua, Iowa.

Jimmie was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Homewood Evangelical Free Church, Moline, Vietnam Veterans of America Post 299, M.A.V.A., Hero Street Chapter 4 and a 32nd degree mason at the Trio Lodge No. 47 AF & AM, Milan. Jimmie enjoyed volunteering at the VA Clinic in Bettendorf and at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Whitten, Moline; children (and spouses), Jeanine (Walter) McIntosh, Indianapolis, John (Rebecca) Whitten, Benton, La., Curt (Rose) Whitten, Moline and Sherry (Lyle) Leftwich, Moline; grandchildren, Lindsey, Lilly and Levi McIntosh, Talia Spiker, Toria Leftwich, Maradyth Richey, Kayce Bison, Julie Whitten, Curtis Whitten and Steaphanie Smith; and several great-grandchildren.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents.
