Jimmie "Jim" Winford McDanel , 76, of Colona, IL, passed away Saturday June 25, 2022 at OSF-St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, IL.

He was born November 4, 1945 in Fulton, Kentucky; a son of Ruby and Bondella Underwood McDanel. He graduated from United Township High School, East Moline, IL, Class of 1964. He married Susan "Sue" Newton on September 18, 1965 in Rock Island.

Jim retired in 1995 at the age of 49, after 30 years of employment at John Deere Harvester Works.

Jim's greatest joy was his family and friends. He was the rock for his family, and could always be counted on to be there for them. He loved games, jokes and family gatherings. Hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and the four corners of Yellowstone was one of his biggest thrills. He was a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America being Assistant Troop Leader for Troop 131 of Geneseo long after his sons were grown.

He enjoyed Sport Shooting with "the boys" +one. He loved to bake his annual Christmas cookies, jigsaw puzzles, watching Ninja Warrior and walks with his new puppy, Molly.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Sue, of Colona; children, Lance (Marnie) McDanel, Orion, IL, Lonnie (Melissa) McDanel, Colona, IL and Lori (Jay) Proehl, Milan, IL; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Hofstetter, Silvis, IL and Kathy (Don) Krack, Aledo, IL; nieces and nephews, and other family.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Larry McDanel.

In accordance with his wishes, a Celebration of Life gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date.

Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, IL, is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kaylea Proehl Special Needs Trust or to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
