With heavy hearts yet filled with gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Jimmy D. Silas, a cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved friend, who departed this life on May 24, 2025. Born in Louisville, Mississippi, on January 16, 1950, to Melvin Silas Sr. and Mattie Harper, Jimmy epitomized resilience and dedication, both in his personal and professional life.
Jimmy was a charismatic gentleman who loved spending time with family and friends, listening to music and telling one-of-a-kind stories in the way that entertaining way that only Jimmy could tell them. Jimmy did extensive traveling and touched many lives on his journeys.
He is survived by his spouse, Shirley Silas; children, Latonia Flowers, Eric Johnson, Demetrius Johnson (Chanda), Jimeshia Hutton (Winston), Willie Silas (Jasmine), Azerbaijan Silas, and stepdaughter Caprishon Moore and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren who all carry his legacy of kindness and hard work forward. He will also be missed by his siblings, Melvin Silas Jr., Freddy Mae Haynes, Brianne Silas, Arthur Johnson, Melva Finley, Tyler Campbell, and Erica Johnson. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Melvin Silas Sr., Mattie Harper, and brothers, Fredrick (Meshach Silas) Finley, William M. Silas, Mark Anthony Johnson.
In celebration of Jimmy's life, family and friends are invited to attend funeral services that will honor his memory. There will be a visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and the ceremonies will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, where we will gather to share stories and reflect on the joyous moments spent with a remarkable man who touched the hearts of so many. Burial will take place following the service at Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island.
As we commemorate the life of Jimmy D. Silas, let us remember him not in sadness, but in joy for the wonderful memories he gifted us all. May his legacy of love and devotion continue to inspire generations to come.
