(Borst) Heriford
March 4, 1934 – October 28, 2022
Joan E. Heriford, 88, of Geneseo and formerly of Rock Island, passed away Friday, October 28, 2022 at Hammond-Henry Long Term Care in Geneseo.
A visitation and memorial service will be held at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Island on Wednesday, November 23. The visitation will be held at 10 a.m. and a memorial service at 11 a.m. Reverend. Kelly Stone will officiate. The service can be viewed via livestream at www.wheelanpressly.com/live-stream. Joan was born on March 4, 1934 in Moline to George J. and Lucile E. (Wright) Borst. She grew up in Rock Island, having graduated from Rock Island High School in 1952. She married Chuck Heriford on August 1, 1954. Together they built their family and businesses, eventually opening Heriford TV and Appliance in Rock Island. Chuck tragically passed in 1986. Joan was a member of the King's Daughters Circle and South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. She cherished relationships and kept in contact with many friends, both old and new, over the years.
A well-traveled woman, Joan visited many regions of the US and multiple countries. Joan was a dedicated reader; she was also a skilled crafter and knitter. Until very recently she was active in knitting blankets, caps, and scarves that she sold, donated to those in need, or shared with family. Joan had a keen fondness for Northern Wisconsin where she spent many summer vacations fishing on the lake. She purchased property in Chetek, Wisconsin in the mid-nineties and it became a seasonal home for her in the summer where she was able to host many, many friends and family over the years. Above all else, Joan loved spending time with her family.
Joan is survived by her four children: Holly (Wayne) Stone, Joel (Cheryl) Heriford, Julie (Richard) Work and Brad (Erika) Heriford; eight grandchildren: Jason (Anne Marie) Stone, Kelly (John Anderson) Stone, Michael (Christie) Stone, Brandon (Shea) Heriford, Alex (Mariah Allen) Heriford, Mackenzie (Adam) Winter, Rachael Heriford, and Olivia Heriford; and seven great-grandchildren: Emma and Hannah Stone, Ashley and Jackson Anderson, Lucas and Ryan Stone, and Jack Heriford. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
The family thanks the staff at Hammond-Henry Long Term Care for their attention and kindness.
