Joean E. Thornton, 75, of Moline, passed away Friday January 6, 2017 at
UPH-Trinity, Moline.
Services are 10:00 am Wednesday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church,
Coal Valley. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly
Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 East 4th Ave, Milan, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm. Memorials may be left to the family to be designated later.
Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island.
Joean was born on February 14, 1941 in Milan, the daughter of Oliver
and Evelyn (Hahn) Brasmer. She married Clayton "Mike" Thornton on June
24, 1961 in Moline. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2011.
Mrs. Thornton was employed as a pediatric nurses aid at the former
Moline Public Hospital and later stayed home to raise her five children.
Joean was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church and charter
member of Court 1180 Independent Order of Foresters.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great
grandmother. She also enjoyed dancing, crocheting, reading and
traveling with her husband Mike.

Survivors include children:  Susan (Don) Ward, Aurora, IL, Brian (Cori) Thornton, Conroe, TX, Rebecca (Keith) Holland, Altona, IL, Elizabeth (James) Jernigan, Coal Valley, IL and Michelle (Darwin) Ward, LeClaire, IA.  Grandchildren:  Jessica (Eric) Knapp, Amy (Josh) Rudolph, Angel (Kevin) Johnson, Savannah (Tim) Stachowski, Kendra McGill, Stephanie Ward, Keith (Shavonne) Holland, Jonathan Thornton, Shawn (Maria) Downing, Ashley Ward, Ian (Jackie) Jernigan, Aubree Payne, Cassandra Thornton, Danielle Ward, Derek (Sarah) Ward, Jim (Brianne) Jernigan Jr., Katie (Scott) Hennenfent, Sabrina (Richard) Downing, Matthew (Tiffany) Thornton, Sara Downing, Melissa Ward, Taylor Thornton, Dakota Thornton and Izabel Jernigan.  Great grandchildren:  Drake Rudolph, Dylan Knapp, Laden Rudolph, Angelina Keifer, AlexZander Rudolph, Parker Holland, Owen Knapp, Trey Thornton, Embur Rudolph, Walter McGill, Callie Thornton, Ella Holland, Isaac Rangel-Downing, Kalli Posey, Payson Holland, Kasey Johnson, Henry Stachowski, Charlotte McGill, Kyler Johnson, Grayson Jernigan, Ruby Stachowski, Elliott Knapp, Zayden Thornton, Oliver Hennenfent and Selah Thornton.  In-laws: Lila Thornton, Mary and Sylvan Torkelson, Mary Ellen Thornton, Dawn and Tom Cables, Keith and Brenda Thornton, Faye Thornton, James Dale.  Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Joean was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Viola Phillips Brasmer, sisters: Dorothy Hyder, Mary Smessaert, Elizabeth Dwyer and brother: Lawrence Brasmer.
