Obituary

John L. Bush, 87, of Taylor Ridge, passed away Wednesday April 29, 2026 at UPH Trinity, Rock Island/ surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be from 9:30am to 11:30am Tuesday May 5, 2026 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00pm in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Taylor Ridge. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island.

John was born on June 21, 1938 in Rock Island, IL, the son of John Edward and Mary (Wille) Bush. He married Jacquelyn Iverson on April 29, 1961 in Milan and they were married for 50 years. After Jackie’s passing John spent 13 years with his beloved companion Janet Schmidt, which gave our dad and family the love of having an extended family with her children and grandchildren. 

John proudly followed his father’s footsteps and worked in construction, they co-founded the family business, Bush Construction. Throughout the years built over 200 homes and dedicated himself to help grow the company until he retired.

He loved spending time with his family, golfing with his favorite four-some, playing cards and fishing. John was a devoted Rockridge Rocket fan, Fighting Illini, Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.

Survivors include Janet Schmidt, his children, Steve (Kim) Bush, Terri (Jim) Schickel, Debbie (Mike) Valazza, Karen (Jonathan) Frommelt and Kelly Black. His grandchildren, Jacque, Brooke, Brittany, Madison, Heidi, Angela, Olivia, Cameron, Lily, Tessa, Trey, Bennett and Fischer and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacquelyn; parents, John and Mary; sisters, Donna Benson, Doris Moffitt and son in law, Shane Teagarden.
