John Calvin "Cal" Peters, 88, of Rock Island, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Funeral services are 1 pm Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Entombment is in the Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island, where military honors will be presented by Moline American Legion Post 246. Visitation is 11 am until service time Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Toys For Tots.

John Calvin Peters was born Sept. 23, 1927 in Coal City, Ill., a son of John Daniel and Mary Oswald Peters. He married JoAnn Senter on May 20, 1951 in Coal City. She died May 12, 2013.

Cal retired from the Rock Island Arsenal, where he was head of maintenance. He previously worked at the Arsenal in Joliet, Ill., and in early years was a partner in Coal City Builders.

Cal was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran having served from 1946 - 1947 and 1950 - 1951. He was a member of the N.R.A. Cal loved to hunt and fish.

Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Peters, Coal Valley; grandsons, John Peters and his wife, Beth, Rock Island and Michael Peters, Coal Valley; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Joanne Peters, Coal City; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Anton and Irene Bosonetta, Coal City; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn; and son Calvin J. "Cal" Peters.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Bickford Cottage in Davenport for their exceptional care and love during Cal's stay, as well as the staffs of Clarissa C Cook Hospice House and Trinity Terrace Park.
