John C. Collier, 63, of Milan, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2014 at his home. Services for John will be 10 am, Thursday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 pm to 7pm, at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, where a prayer service will be conducted at 4pm, at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
John was born on November 17, 1950 in Rock Island, a son of Harold and Dorcas (Gaither) Collier. He married Patrice Grabowski on November 8, 1974 in Davenport. John was a Journeyman Electrician. He had worked for various electrical companies in the Quad Cities. John retired in 2010 after 40 years of service. His memberships include St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church and the IBEW Local No. 145, Moline. John was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran.
He was a loving father dedicated to the lives of his two sons. He was a devoted husband to his wife and best friend. He loved the game of golf and spent as much time as he could on the course. No one was a stranger to John. He had a knack for starting up a conversation with anyone who would listen. He made an impact on many lives and will be sorely missed.
Survivors include his wife, Patrice; sons, Matthew Collier (Angie Blair), Rock Island, Nathan (Megan) Collier, Golden. CO.; siblings, David (Ann) Collier, Milan, Mike (Debbie) Collier, Galesburg, James (Carole) Collier, Davenport, Marcy (Audie) Purcell, Georgia and Mary Smith (Eric Uitvlugt) Grand Rapids, MI.; a sister in law, Janice Townsend, Bettendorf; and a sister in law and brother in law, Joyce and Joe Sallak, Wauconda, IL.; and several nieces and nephews.
